They have a little corrosion and age discoloration in spots as shown. Use 4 of these per Atlas or Lionel HO slotcar track joint to make a solid electrical and mechanical connection. These are about 1/32" shorter than standard Atlas track joiners, making the overall length of these about 19/32" long, and they make a nice tight mechanical and electrical track joint connection. I recommend using a wooden dowel to carefully press them into the holes in the track, as it is a lot easier on your hands that way.In the last two photos I've shown one of these joiners on the left side, with a standard Atlas track joiner shown on the right.
