Description: Selling the collection of 11 Pleurodontidae land snail shells owned by Robert E. Woodruff. Mr. Woodruff was a well known entomologist for the University of Florida, but it was clear at his estate sale that he loved to collect more than bugs including rocks, fossils, Florida tree snails, and snails from other countries. His collection of tree snails dates from 1932 to 1960. Dr. Woodruff often bought out other's collections so it is hard to know the date on these except that these Pleurodontidae shells would fall into that 1930's to 1960's time frame based on the dating of all other shells he had. But, he didn't label the container with a location or date as he did some of his other snails shells. You can read Robert E. Woodruff's obituary online. I'm not sure what genus we have here whether Pleurodonte, Caracolus, or Dentellaria. My guess is these are Pelurodonte lucerna, Pleurodonte rostrata, and Pleurodonte marginella. Unique and old collection. Free shipping in the USA.
