Description: Kovacik Guitars offers this premium quality kit, which is designed to produce a long (25.4") scale, 1 3/4" at the nut, 12 fret 00 model guitar. While it does not conform strictly to any specific Martin model specifications, it has elements that are similar to both style 21 (tortoise binding and simple b/w/b/w top purfling) and also style 42/45 (pearl rosette, style 45 fret board inlay and split herringbone multi color marquetry back strip). The kit also features an ebony fretboard and bridge . Please read the description carefully and review the photos for complete details. You are purchasing a unique kit formulated by real guitar makers, not merely an odd assemblage of reject factory parts This kit will make a 12 fret 00 size guitar in old European spruce and solid genuine Martin East Indian Rosewood . This kit contains all Martin production components. Not a Martin factory boxed kit but made up from parts purchased at the Martin factory for use in my luthiery business. All of the parts in this kit are first quality and free of defect or flaws, the only small issue is a small cosmetic knot shadow in the shaft of the neck. See the description and photos below for details of that issue. All parts are guaranteed to be compatible with one another to make the instrument described but no guarantee can be offered to cover buyer labor and end result. Kit includes: ---Solid genuine East Indian Rosewood two piece back from old Martin stock. Joined with a style 42/45 style multicolored back strip. The back shows nice color with straight grain and is very well quartered. Marked for profiling as well as for bracing. ---Solid genuine Martin East Indian Rosewood sides, profiled, thicknessed and bent to the 12 fret 00 configuration. These are an excellent color and grain match for the back. -Solid Mahogany Front "simple" dovetail and rear blocks For those not familiar with this joint, it is a straight mortise and tenon (not flared along its length like a traditional Martin dovetail) that is flared from front to back (see pics). ---Solid old Martin 1980s European spruce top, joined and rosetted with a very nice style 42/45 rosette with abalone pearl installed. Straight even grain, nice color. Traditional “X” pattern bracing pattern is marked for you. ---Solid Mahogany slotted head Martin neck complete with Indian rosewood head veneer installed . Neck is factory machined, 25.4" "long" scale. Martin "Simple" dovetail joint, a modern two-way Martin reinforcement rod is included for installation in the recess which has been machined for it. Slotted head is drilled for standard 1/4" tuner shafts and 1 3/8" spacing. There is a small dark spot in the grain at the middle of the shaft of the neck, likely the outer edge of a knot the existed in the blank, cosmetic only, the dark smudge next to it is old tape adhesive. -A very nice gold set of Waverly Individual slotted head tuning machines is included with this kit (worth over $250 alone). ---Genuine Martin Ebony 25.4"" scale fret board with a style 45 snowflake pattern completely inlaid. The inlays/glue that was used to install them need to be leveled, no big deal. Ebony "through" saddle bridge is included. Fret board is factory radiused, slotted with 1 5/8" at nut along with binding to achieve a 1 3/4" nut width. The bridge is a belly, shaped and completely profiled with 2 1/4" pin spacing. Fret board width can be trimmed to a narrower spec if desired. ---Genuine sitka spruce “X” pattern 1/4" top bracing and tone bars are included. The complete top brace set includes a maple bridge plate. Bracing is profiled to a scalloped configuration. -- Sitka spruce back bracing set with center reinforcement strip is included. ---Martin kerfed cedar lining ---Tortoise pattern body binding, and fretboard binding (4strips) provided along with black/white/black/white top purfling strips ---Tortoise heel cap and End graft provided. ---Self adhesive tortoise colored pickguard is included and a good fit to the rosette. ---Bone nut ---neck set bolt is included (the joint does not require a bolt but it can be used if desired). ---Black bridge pins and end pin Buyer will provide Fretwire, glue and finish. No instructional materials or plans are provided, those items can be sourced through other outlets. All the patterning that is necessary for bracing and layout is marked according to original Martin factory templates. Kovacik Guitars is not responsible for any incompatibility between the patterning on the kit and any instructional materials you may obtain, nor for the result of your efforts to assemble the kit. Kovacik Guitars does not provide technical assistance for assembly. I sold kits for over 10 years online and on ebay and had hundreds of happy clients. The recent disappearance of various suppliers in the market, along with my desire to draw down my own holdings of wood and parts in my shop has lead me to decide to offer out some one-off kits once again.
