Description: From a Catalina Foothills estate in Tucson is this 14K solid yellow gold birthstone or special occasion ring. The aesthetically pleasing ornament features a prong set 8x6mm faceted oval amethyst of nicely saturated coloration, with a total of twelve (12) flanking round diamond accents tiered at the shoulders in leaf shaped surrounds of white gold. There is a clear "14K" and "Romanza" to the shank, so no guessing in that regard. The forever au courant presentation is very much reminiscent of rings from the 1950's and early 1960's - if a mid century look is what you are after, this one has that thing. Weight is good for the form at about 2.8 grams on my portable digital scale. Condition is quite good with a subtle aura of time to the gold surfaces. The amethyst is well preserved, with just the usual minor wear to the table from occasional period finger duty. The diamonds are all present and still do their sparkling job. I see no evidence of any subsequent size alterations to the shank. A look at the pics should give a good idea of appearance and condition. Size is about 6 3/4 on my jeweler's ring mandrel (the bottom edge of the shank reaches that line on the mandrel). About 5/16 in. vertical at the front - so yes it will be noticed. If you prefer vintage and preowned for value and a break from that stuff at the mall, or simply wish a single immediate improvement to the ambiance of each day, this will have great meaning for you. inkfrog terapeak
