Backing is made of Queensland Ironstone (The matrix that boulder Opal is found in). As a result it wont shrink up and chip after a few years like some cheap resin doublets that you sometimes see made in China and India. Benefits of Doublets is that you get a gemstone with a lot of color at a really low price (And depending on how its set in jewelry it can be very difficult to tell the difference between a doublet and solid Opal anyway).
