Description: I have got to clear some space on my shelves, so I need to part with some of my collection. Back in the day, Revell and others would create models to fit into their standard boxes without regard to any standard scale. Sometimes this was referred to as Box Scale. This is one of those kits and it turns out to be the Vought F7U-3 Cutlass naval fighter in 1/60 scale. This aircraft was developed starting in 1945 and ending when the F8 Crusader made its appearance in the late 50s. It had a poor reputation for performance and safety, so had a very short service life. I found a handful of listings for this kit on eBay (mostly opened and from overseas sellers), but as a Top Rated Plus US Seller, I have this in stock and can reliably ship this to you very quickly. Here is what I have found online about this limited-edition kit: The Revell website no longer shows this kit, so I assume it has been Discontinued or is Out of Production. From other sources, I have found the following blurb about the F7U plus a few of the kit features: Already in 1946, the F7U had been built for the US Navy as a fighter/interceptor with a powerful rate of climb and it made its maiden flight in September 1948. It was the first US aircraft built from the outset for use with afterburning engines. It went into service with the US Navy at the beginning of the 1950s. This tailless aircraft received as armament the beam-guided Sparrow 1 air-to-air missile and was also used for armed reconnaissance missions. Features:• Structural details on surfaces• Simulated cockpit with pilot figure• Landing gear with moveable wheels• Four pylons with Sparrow missiles• Decals for two US Navy versions Scalemates.com shows this is a 2010 Revell Classics limited edition release based on the venerable 1953 tooling that has been the basis of 10 releases under the Revell, Revell/New Zealand and Revell/Lodela brands. Since the original release was 1/81, I am going to assume that the box label of 1/80 is just meant to be a ballpark figure to look more rational. They provide a link to download the complete 8-page instruction set and painting / decal guide. There are also many links to reviews, references and galleries of Martin B-57 and English Electric Canberra bombers to help you get the details right. Frank Richter gives us a refreshing In-Box Review on the German-language modellversium.de site that shows the sprues and gives close-ups of several parts. He wishes a stand was included and acknowledged that the new decal sheet is the highlight of the kit. His commonsense conclusion was: “You have to take the Classics kits as they are. That's what model making was like in 1953. The decals are really good, they enhance the model immensely. The unusual selection of prototypes, some of which have not yet been implemented elsewhere, make these models interesting.” This kit is in a small “throwback” box about 12” x 5” x 1.5”. As you can see from the pictures, the kit is in great shape and still sealed with large tape disks, so I consider it factory sealed and absolutely gift-ready. This item contains 30 silver and clear plastic parts and a set of modern decals to make a nostalgic model of the Vought F7U-3 Cutlass naval fighter. I use eBay Managed Payments, but I no longer ship internationally. Auction winner pays the winning bid and for a limited time I am offering this classic item with $5 Flat Rate Shipping in the US! No reserve and a low starting bid. Check out my other great auctions and listings for combined shipping. Good luck! Those familiar with my listings can tell that I really enjoy these products and the modeling hobby. I like to provide more than just the bare facts about the items, trying to lead you into discovering more about the subjects and optimizing your builds (if that is your goal). I started out picking up models that I was interested in, with the eye toward building them when I had time. Always a bargain-hunter, I accumulated many more than I can build, so I found myself in a Collector status (sounds nicer than a hoarder). As I am sure you have noticed, my items are almost always sealed and in mint condition (I call them Gift-Ready), since I only open them when I am ready to build them. Now I enjoy making these products available to my fellow modelers; both Builders and Collectors. For the Builders, there are probably better (at least cheaper) ways to add to your project lists than buying from me, but you know you are getting top quality. For Collectors, my goal is to save you a few bucks over the competition for the same item in factory sealed and collectible (or resellable) condition.
