DATE PRINTED: c.1627. SIZE: The printed area is approximately 13 x 9 cm (5 x 3.5 inches), plus good margins.ARTIST/CARTOGRAPHER/ENGRAVER: Engraved for Humble's 'England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland Described and Abridged... from a Farr Larger Voulume Done by John Speed (London: G. Humble, 1627-1632).' A set of miniature maps, engraved by Pieter van den Keere, based mainly on Christopher Saxton. They are believed to have been first issued between c. 1605–10 in Amsterdam. They were reprinted in 1627 by George Humble, the publisher of the 1610 atlas by John Speed. To capitalise on the value of Speed's name, the collection was retitled as above, and came to be known as the Miniature Speed. The only relation to the Speed maps is that the text used in the Speed atlas was also used in the Keere atlas. TYPE: Antique copper plate engraving printed on laid paper. VERSO: There is text printed on the reverse side, which describes Ireland. CONDITION: Good; suitable for framing. Please check the scan for any blemishes prior to making your purchase.
