1/700 USS Cushing DD-797 Tamiya Water Line Series #31907 Shrink Wrapped MISB

Description: I would like to clear some space on my shelves, so I need to part with some of my collection. THIS IS MY LAST ONE! The Cushing was one of a whopping 175 Fletcher class destroyers that the US Navy cranked out in WWII. Commissioned in early 1944, she was very active in the Pacific at the end of the war and even served again in Korea. Her long service life included time in the Atlantic, Pacific and Mediterranean, as well as a stint in the Brazilian Navy. This kit shows the WWII configuration and USN camouflage scheme. I found dozens of these kits listed on eBay (many from distant overseas sellers), but as a Top Rated Plus US Seller, I have this in stock and can reliably ship this kit very quickly. Here is what I have found online about this particular model: The Tamiya website has a photo of a finished model and the following information about the subject and kit: Witness to a Famous Moment in Japan's History During WWII, 175 of the 2,000 ton Fletcher-class destroyers were built for the U.S. Navy and they served as the main destroyers of both the Pacific and Atlantic fleets. One such Fletcher-class ship was the USS Cushing (DD-797) which was completed in 1944. Taking lessons learned in battle, she was a late-production ship fitted with increased anti-aircraft armament and a square-shaped bridge which offered greater visibility. In addition to five 12.7cm guns and a quintuple 533mm torpedo launcher, she was armed with five twin 40mm cannons and seven single 20mm cannons. From her deployment in 1944, she took part in actions such as the attacks on Taiwan and the Battle of Leyte Gulf, and at the end of the war she entered Tokyo Bay with the USS Missouri and witnessed the signing of the surrender documents. About the Model · The square-shaped bridge and additional AA armament which characterized late-production Fletcher-class ships are accurately reproduced· Five 12.7cm guns, AA armament, torpedo launcher, and depth charge launchers are all highly detailed· Sharply rendered radar antennae and other small parts add to the purposeful appearance of the destroyer· Decals included to depict ship numbers and the U.S. flag· Camouflage patterns used by the U.S. Navy are clearly explained by the instruction manual and color illustrations on the back of the package. Scalemates.com shows that this is a 2003 release based on the 1996 new tooling. They have a link to download the concise 2-page instruction set and several links to reviews, aftermarket parts and photo galleries for Fletcher-class projects. Timothy Dike published an In-Box Review on the modelwarships.com website with about a half-dozen shots of the sprues, instructions and decals. He points out the changes made from the earlier release to show the later model DDs and lets us know that the decals cover the Cushing as well as the Colahan (DD658). In his Conclusions, he says the kit is: “a great value and when you consider it is half the price of competing DD's it is still a great kit for the money and great starting point for a late war Fletcher.” Ralf Schuster delivered a fine In-Box Review on the German-language modellversium.de site with over a half-dozen shots of the sprues, decals, instructions and painting guide. He feels that the 5” main guns may be a little small and more detail could be provided if you purchase a PE set for the kit, but his translated Result starts with: “The lover of ships of the US Navy gets here one of the numerous variants of the legendary Fletchers. It is unrivalled for this scale and price segment”. joekmodels posted a fantastic 18-minute Build Video on YouTube that starts with a review of the kit contents. You get to watch the entire build, including cutting the parts and gluing together the tiny pieces. He provides continuous tips for making this a great little model. The second half is hand painting and finishing and his results were outstanding. As a bonus, he shows you how he built a dazzling diorama display case for his completed model. This kit is in a compact box about 9” x 4” x 1”. As you can see from the pictures, the kit is in mint condition and still in the original shrink wrap, so it is factory sealed and absolutely gift-ready. This item contains highly detailed plastic parts and decals to make a waterline hull model of this late-war Fletcher-class Destroyer. I use eBay Managed Payments, but I no longer ship internationally. Auction winner pays winning bid plus, for a limited time, I am offering this kit with $5 Flat Rate Shipping in the US! No reserve and a low starting bid. Check out my other great auctions and listings for combined shipping. Good luck! Those familiar with my listings can tell that I really enjoy these products and the modeling hobby. I like to provide more than just the bare facts about the items, trying to lead you into discovering more about the subjects and optimizing your builds (if that is your goal). I started out picking up models that I was interested in, with the eye toward building them when I had time. Always a bargain-hunter, I accumulated many more than I can build, so I found myself in a Collector status (sounds nicer than a hoarder). As I am sure you have noticed, my items are almost always sealed and in mint condition (I call them Gift-Ready), since I only open them when I am ready to build them. Now I enjoy making these products available to my fellow modelers; both Builders and Collectors. For the Builders, there are probably better (at least cheaper) ways to add to your project lists than buying from me, but you know you are getting top quality. For Collectors, my goal is to save you a few bucks over the competition for the same item in factory sealed and collectible (or resellable) condition.
