Description: Original antique lithographed map of the survey of a tract of land in the Province of New York granted to Robert Livingston the Elder during the reign of George I of Great Britain. The tract, known as Livingston Manor, was located between the Hudson River and the Massachusetts border in an area that later became a portion of Columbia County in the state of New York. The map is titled "Map of Livingston Manor, Anno 1714" and labels numerous landscape features, along with a description by John Beatty, Deputy Surveyor of the Province of New York. Specific named places and features on the map include the Manor House, Mill, Tahkanick Hills Mountains, Clavorock Kill, Governor Hunter's Island, and "The Kings hie way that leadeth from the Manor House to Tahkantic." The map is oriented with North to the left and includes a compass rose and distance scale measured in furlongs.Livingston Manor was a 160,000-acre tract of land granted to Robert Livingston through the influence of 5th Governor Thomas Dongan, and confirmed by royal charter of George I of Great Britain in 1715, creating the manor and lordship of Livingston. The original patent was obtained in July 1686.The tract was approximately 20 miles wide from east to west and was approximately 12 miles long from north to south. It was located between the Hudson River on the west and the Massachusetts border on the east. It encompassed the area that would later become the towns of Livingston, Germantown, Clermont, Taghkanic, Gallatin, Copake, and Ancram, located in Columbia County, New York. This authentic rendering of Barry's 1714 survey was lithographed and published by Weed, Parsons & Company in Volume Three of The Documentary History of the State of New York, Edmund Bailey O'Callaghan, Albany, New York, 1850. Condition: It is in very good condition, bright and clean, with folds, as issued, and no marks, rips, or tears. It is printed on a lightweight paper and is blank on the back, with no printing on the reverse side. It folds to 8" x 5". Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions.
