Complete in two volumes, uniformly bound in full calf. The collected works of Irish dramatist, George Farquhar, who was particularly known for his contributions to late Restoration comedy. This work contains all of Farquhar's poems, letters, essays and comedies published during his life. Volume I contains 'Poems, Letters and a Discourse upon Comedy', 'Love and a Bottle', 'The Constant Couple' and 'Sir Harry Wildair'. Volume II contains 'The Inconstant', 'The Twin-Rivals', 'The Recruiting-Officer' and 'The Beaux-Stratagem'. With a separate title page and pagination for each comedy; 'Love and a Bottle', 'The Constant Couple', 'Sir Harry Wildair', and all plays to volume II. Bound with original endpapers and blanks, without half titles. With a bookplate of welsh landowner and politician, John Myddelton and the ink inscription of E. S. Thompson. CONDITION Bound in full calf, with original endpapers and blanks, without half titles. Externally, worn, with the front board detached to I. Rubbing and marking to boards, with slight loss to the leather, particularly to the spine head and tail. Lacking spine labels. Remaining hinges are strained, with the front of I and rear of II tender. Bookplate to front paste down with ink inscription to the front endpaper. Lacking endpapers to I. Slight offsetting to title page to I. Internally, otherwise firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
