Description: An original hand signed “Nine Pence” note with the British arms on the front along with an elaborate boarder design. The hand inscribed serial number in red ink has faded. The reverse features ornamental boarders with “Pennsylvania - Printed by Hall and Sellers – 1776” on paper containing mica flakes and silk threads. An emission of £85,000 in bills of credit as "resolve money" were issued pursuant to the resolve of April 6, 1776. Bills from this emission were printed by Hall and Sellers in Philadelphia on paper containing mica flakes and blue threads. In each denomination the spelling of the colony name "Pennsylvania" is found in a different form; the spelling also differs by plate from 10s notes and higher. This is the continuation of an anti-counterfeiting measure used by Benjamin Franklin and Hall and Sellers. Additional Colonial notes listed under “Northern Currency”. The note will be shipped in a protective sleeve with a dated, hand signed Letter of Authenticity with a photograph of the currency above. All of the artifacts on our site are guaranteed to be original Civil War issue or as stated. Please see our "About” for more information on the framing and artifacts.
