Description: I have here for sale a book entitled A SHORT ACCOUNT OF THE LIFE AND WRITINGS OF ROBERT BARCLAY published by W Phillips, London, 1802. Split into 2 parts; Part 1 covering his origins, education, religion, and the chief events in his life, and part 2 covering his writings, motives for publication, and a brief description of his works contents. Robert Barclay 1648 – 1690 was a Scottish Quaker, one of the most respected writers of the Religious Society of Friends and a member of the Clan Barclay. In 1667 he joined the recently formed Religious Society of Friends and began to write in defence of the movement. Bound in leather. The front board is missing, replaced with similar style board to protect the text block, and the title page is detached, and the rear joint is split. Some rubbing to the leather, and cracking to the spine. Bumped and chipped to the head and tail of spine. The binding is damaged and many of the pages are on the verge of becoming disbound. A pen inscription is to the reverse of the title page, otherwise pages clean. This book is in overall fair condition. 127 pages. 16 x 10 cm.
