PUBLISHER Bradford & Read, Boston DATE 1812 SIZE 7" tall, 4.5" deep, 1" tall EXTERIOR CONDITION Bound in brown marbled leather with gold gilt decorations and lining on the spine, gold gilt title BIBLE NEWS on the spine, and gold gilt lining on the "edges" of the front and rear boards. Minor leather chipping along the front board hinge, not effecting the functionality of the front hinge--the front hinge is in good working condition. Very very minor leather cracking along the rear hinge, not effecting the functionality of the rear hinge--the rear hinge is in good working condition. Possible bug bite to 1/2 inch along the top of the front (leather) hinge. Very minor rubbing and bumping to the exterior leather of this book. There is a tiny amount of leather loss at the tips of the four corners of the book--hardly noticeable. Otherwise, the four corners of the book remain relatively sharp with little to no bumping. The edges of the pages are mildly speckled (they were made this way) and are very evenly aged toned with no dust dulling to the top edge. INTERIOR CONDITION The front and rear paste down pages (along with the front and rear first fly leaf pages) are beautiful marbled paper with little to no paper cracking along the inside hinges. The text block of this book remains tight with no loose signatures. The pages throughout this book are evenly age toned to a light tea color with a darker tea color around the printed portion of each page. There is a minor (half dollar sized) water stain to the top corner of the first three pages of the book--not really a big deal--the pages remain crisp and flat. There is a pencil signature on the first front fly leaf page (dated 1844) and an ink signature at the top of the title page. Otherwise, there are no other pencil or ink marks throughout the book. The pages throughout this book remain crisp with little to no folded corners (I noticed 3 or 4 pages with 1/4" of a corner previously folded, but now corrected). This 210 year old book published in Boston just 36 years after the founding of America (and during the War of 1812), is a true piece of American and Christian history, and would make a fine addition to the book shelves of any library.
