Description: The Book of Common Prayer, 1814The Book of Common Prayer and Administration of the Sacraments and Other Rites and Ceremonies of the Church According to the Use of the United Church of England and Ireland. London: Cornish and Co., 1814. "With notes and annotations also a companion to the altar together with the Psalter or Psalms of David pointed as they are to be said or sung in churches." With frontispiece engraving showing the interior of Westminster Abbey and eight other engravings. Hardcover, bound in full leather with six raised bands and gilt decorations and titles on the front cover. Attractive marbled paper endpapers. Very good, cover starting, but still firmly attached, small split at top of spine, about 1/2 inch. Offsetting to pages opposing the engravings as can be seen in my images. The book has an interesting provenance. The bookplate of T. Tileston Wells, Esq. on inside front cover. Wells (1865-1946) was an American attorney and the Romanian consul general. He was also a leader in French, Serbian and Romanian relief efforts during WWI, highly decorated in European countries, including a Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur from France. (Wikipedia).
