Description: 1818 Curtis Botanical Magazine Antique Book Calf Marble Cover 24 print Vol 45 Good condition for a volume which is over 200 years old with lovely brightly colored marbled paper and gilded calf spine. Corners are quite worn, and the spine still tight with wear and creasing, clearly shown but title and volume number still visible in gilt. The end papers are a plain tan color, and all 4 are present. This is 1 volume 45 as shown on spine, with index and original title page present and intact. The 24 original hand colored prints each with original text are in good condition with a little toning or offset and one print is a double and is folded into the book as originally issued, all on creamy wove paper. All are shown except 2 due to the image restrictions of the program. This is an incomplete set with pages detached but original to the volume and overall very good. Another treasure of yesteryear that has survived all these years to be repurposed by the hobbyist or binder to give many more years of enjoyment. The binding flat measures about 12 1/2 inches long by 9 inches tall and the spine is about 1 1/8 inches wide by 9 1/2 inches. Conversely, image offset occurs when the hand coloring transfers slightly to the text. Again, we rarely offer heavily offset prints. 3. Spotted or foxing is also common due to age and handling over a long period of time and while a small degree of foxing is common and acceptable, we avoid extensively foxed prints. 4. Book covers may have chips, stains, corner imperfections or spine damage and color lightening or changes. If the prints are very large large we very carefully roll them with several protective layers into a strong tube. They roll out flat very quickly.
