Featuring widow Lady Sneerwell, the play is about rumours first and foremost.'The Rivals' is a comedy of manners by Brinsley Sheridan, first performed at Covert Garden Theatre in 1775. It was Sheridan's first play, and is set in Bath, focusing on two young lovers.Also containing 'St Patrick's Day', 'The Duenna', 'A Trip to Scarborough', 'The Camp', 'The Critic' and 'Pizarro'.Richard Brinsley Sheridan (1751-1816) was an Irish playwright and poet, also known for owning the London Theatre Royal. He was honoured with burial at Poet's Corner in Westminster Abbey, and remembered for plays such as 'The Rivals', 'The Duenna' and 'A Trip to Scarborough'.This copy is two volumes in one, both bound without title pages. Dated from copies held on Jisc.With the armorial bookplate of the Fitzpatricks of Granstown Manor. CONDITION In a contemporary full calf binding. Externally generally smart; spine is discoloured as to be expected, with a little wear to the extremities and edges. Internally, generally firmly bound; front hinge is strained at the first page but remains firm. Pages are a little spotted.
