Description: I have here for sale two books entitled THE BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER and Administration of the Sacraments, and other Rites and Ceremonies of the Church and Psalter or Psalms of David by the Right Rev Richard Mant, Vols I and II. These two volumes are completely different sizes and bindings but make a complete set together and are published by the same publisher in the same year. Vol I covers the Common Prayer section up The Churching of Woman and a Commination; and Vol II covers the Order for the Burial of the Dead and Commination and then the Psalter, plus the Form and Manner of Making, Ordaining and Consecrating of Bishops, Priests and Deacons; Gunpowder Treason prayers; Articles of Religion and Notes. Both volumes printed by Baxter for J Parker and C&J Rivington in 1824. Vol I is bound in full oxblood leather hardboards with gilt crest and lettering to the front board, 4 wide raised bands and gilt lettering to the spine. Small rips in the leather to the bottom right corner of the front board. Rubbed to bands, head and tail of spine, board edges and joints. Gilt page edges all round. Blue endpapers with prize bookplate to front one. Gilt dentelle to board edges. Pages a little sunned and one or two have light foxing but otherwise clean and firm. Vol II is bound in half calf leather on navy marbled hardboards. 5 cross hatched raised bands, black leather title and volume blocks with gilt lettering to the spine. Heavily rubbed to marbled paper, wear to board edges and corners. Foxing to the first and last few pages, all others clean. Vol I - 1-830 pages, Vol II is paginated from 787-1620 (834 pages). Vol I - 25 x 16 cm, Vol II - 22 x 14 cm. We have over 2000 items in our Ebay shop on a range of subjects, so please feel free to have a browse and see if anything else takes your fancy.
