Upon their initial publication in 1819, the first two cantos were criticised as immoral, due to the ridiculing of the society of his day.With an illustrated frontispiece to each of the 'Don Juan' volumes. CONDITION In half calf bindings, with marbled paper covered boards. Of the sixteen morocco spine labels, nine are retained. Rubbing to back strips, boards and board extremities. Front hinge of volume VII starting, with board holding firm. Spotting to pastedowns and endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages to first VI volumes bright and generally clean, with the odd spot. More significant spotting to volumes VII and VIII, most concentrated to first and last few leaves, title pages and frontispieces.
