Description: In a very attractively decorated leather binding, appears to be largely unread after nearly two centuries, this is a hand-sized good quality 1829 leather-bound volume, bringing together: - "The Book of Common Prayer and Administrations of the Sacraments, and other Rites and Ceremonies of the Church, according to the Use of The United Church of England and Ireland: together with The Psalter or Psalms of David, Pointed as they are to be sung or said in Churches." - with, in the same volume - "A New Version of the Psalms of David, fitted to The Tunes used in Churches, by N. Brady D.D. and N. Tate esq.", both printed at the Clarendon Press, Oxford, by Samuel Collingwood & Co., printers to the University. Please excuse the poor photo's, light reflection plays havoc with the gilding and textured finish to the leather, and focussing the camera plus trying to avoid too many shadows on internal pages of a smaller book, especially when tightly bound like this one, is nigh-on impossible, this is the best selection of a very large number taken. Please see my other items for more interesting, rare, and collectable items, as I will always try and combine the delivery to save you money. On Sale is a hand-size, good quality, leather-bound 1829 volume being the * Book of Common Prayer, etc., ... together with the Psalms of David *, bound together in the one volume with * A New Version of the Psalms of David * by Nicholas Brady D.D., and Nahum Tate esq., both sections printed at The Clarendon Press, Oxford, by Samuel Collingwood & Co., printers to the University, sold by E. Gardner at the Oxford Bible Warehouse, and G. B. Whittaker, London, and Henry Mozley, Derby, and T. Wilson & Sons, York, both sections dated 1829 to their title page (photo's 10 & 15). Size approximately 6-1/2 inches x 4 inches x 1-1/2 inches thick, the pages of the Book of Common Prayer are not numbered, with the Brady & Tate Psalms having 188 numbered pages plus a 'Table of the Psalms'. The original dark-brown leather-covered hardcover with profuse and very decorative gilding to both the covers and the spine plus a gilt spine title, has a pair of strong hasps to keep the volume safely closed, there's a small amount of surface-rubbing mainly at the spine, a little light partial surface cracking to the spine-edges else very sound and not split through with both covers securely attached, the two black-painted steel hasps have some partial paint-loss else not rusted and very sound and securely fixed to the covers and both are working well (an unusual type of closure, opened by squeezing together the covers at the front and back fixing point and lifting the strap part via its hinge at the front cover, clicking cleanly back in place to close), gilt generally bright and clear and title clearly legible, otherwise a good quality volume that's generally clean and tidy (see photo's 1 to 7 inclusive ). Inside is complete, all pages edges bright gilt, the dark-red watered-silk endpapers are sound and not split (photo's 8 & 9), no writing or graffiti and no previous owner's name, binding tight and sound with cover and all pages well attached, corners not turned and pages not torn, some variable age-toning and/or spotting to the paper reverse of the free-endpapers plus some of the initial two and final three blank leaves else generally not tanned or foxed, only lightly read and possibly largely unread, otherwise generally crisp and very clean and tidy. Please view all 15 photo's above enlarged as they form part of the description. Please view my other items for sale, as I will always try and combine deliveries.
