Description: 1832 PINNOCK’S IMPROVED EDN. OF DR. GOLDSMITH’S .. HISTORY OF ROME LEATHER Book 1832 PINNOCK’S IMPROVED EDITION OF DR. GOLDSMITH’S ABRIDGMENT OF THE HISTORY OF ROME Antiquarian Red Leather Hardback Book. This is with fold out maps and a stunning frontispiece. There is no Dust Jacket. Published by Whittaker, Treacher, and Co., Ave-Maria-Lane, London. Printed by Gilbert & Rivington, Printers, St. John’s Square, London. This is the twelfth edition and Pinnock’s improved edition of Dr. Goldsmith’s abridgment of the History of Rome; To which is prefixed an introduction to the study of Roman history and a great variety of valuable information added throughout the work; on the manners, institutions, and antiquities of the Romans. With numerous biographical and historical notes and a dictionary. Also questions for examination at the end of each section. This book is a stunning piece of history in itself. This includes a fantastic frontispiece of “The Twelve Caesars”, and three maps, of which two are fold out maps. The maps are after the contents page and include a plan of Rome, which is in a good condition for its age, The Roman Empire, which is sadly only partially intact (see photo), and a map of the incursions of the Barbarians. This is in a good condition, albeit for some small creases and a rip through it (again, please see the photo provided). There is also a genealogical table of the Caesars on pages 510 to 511. The thick red leather boards are so in keeping with books of this age. There is wear to the cover, but this is to be expected with a book that is nearly 200 years old. The spine has on it gilt lettering, surrounded by a border. This too is showing signs of wear, and many creases, but it is fantastic that the cover and boards are all intact. There is bumping to the corners. Please see the photographs provided for further reference. The pages are in an overall neat condition for their age, they are crisp, tanned and have a slight crinkling to them. There are many small marks to the pages and the occasional small crease. Between a few pages the gutter has cracked, but the pages are all secure. There is pen present on a handful of pages, but this does not interrupt the reading. There are no missing pages, and so all 516 pages are present. Please study the photos carefully as to the condition of this book, as they do form part of the description. This really is a lovely example of this book. This measures approximately 18.2 cm by 11 cm and 3.5 cm wide. It weighs approximately 420 grams. Thank you so much for looking.
