ITEM DETAILS Title: An Introduction to the Study of Botany; in which the Science is Illustrated by Examples of Native and Exotic Plants, and Explained by Means of Numerous Wood Cuts, Designed for the Use of Schools and Private StudentsAuthor: John Lee ComstockPublisher: D. F. Robinson & Co., HartfordEdition: Second Edition Condition: Good ITEM DESCRIPTION Today we are pleased to offer this nicely preserved volume on botany by John Lee Comstock! A great find from a local New England estate! This scarce antique volume is over 191 years old! A rare volume to find in any condition! Originally published in 1832, this is the 2nd edition published in 1833. In nice condition overall! Original publisher leather binding shows some wear, including rubbing and soiling to the boards and spine, general wear around the extremities including bumping the corners and chipping and slight loss to the spine extremes, and some soiling and fading to the marbled page edges. Also note that there is some tape affixed to the binding to better secure the hinge. Otherwise this is an attractive, well-preserved antique volume! The gilt title lettering on the spine displays nicely from the shelf. Internally, this volume is in good shape overall. Both boards and all page groupings remain firmly attached to the binding; again the front hinge has been repaired with tape. The endpapers show a bit of wear including creasing and loss to the corners. Otherwise sound. There are no bookplates, signatures, inscriptions or library markings to note. The text block of this volume shows typical age-related toning to the pages, as well as some light soiling and foxing scattered throughout, light damp staining in the upper margin, general edge wear including page creasing, wrinkling, and minor edge tearing in a few spots, and some light underlining in pencil in spots. Otherwise clean! Free from rips and tears and other major blemishes and perfectly readable throughout! Illustrated throughout with woodcut engravings. Make sure to see the additional photos in the description below for a thorough look through this antique volume. 260 pages.
