Description: These are original plates from 1834 from the book “ The Feathered Tribes of the British Islands by Robert Mudie”. Mudie worked with George Baxter to create color illustrations. One of the first books printed with color illustrations like this. Robert Mudie (28 June 1777– 29 April 1842) was a British newspaper editor, journalist, and author. He wrote books on a wide range of subjects including mathematics and astronomy, English history, geography and life. He was also a keen naturalist and wrote several books on natural history including on British birdlife. As a journalist, his reporting has been suggested as a possible inspiration for Charles Dicken's Oliver Twist Three birds are in this one. I have owned this for over 35 years. My wife and I collected them thinking we would open a store when we retired. We are now retired and have no interest in opening a store so selling on eBay. Size 8 inches by 4 3/4 inches Condition some toning and a couple of spots but would look beautiful in an acid free frame and a nice frame. Buy an original not a copy. This would look great in any home or office.
