Description: Book Description: James Jackson, Memoir of James Jackson, Jr., M. D. Written by his Father from Extracts and Letters and Reminiscences of Him by a Fellow Student for the Warren Street Chapel. Boston: Hilliard, Gray, 1836, 228 pages. 4 ½” x 6 ¾”. Faded gilt title on faded pressed purple boards. Occasional minor spotting and presentation note in pencil on title page, but, in general, a clean copy. Very good binding. Over-all in very good condition. Includes not only a biography of Jackson but also letters dealing with various diseases. Jackson, who was grief stricken over the premature death of his son, published several versions of this memoir over several years. This, the rarest, includes reminiscences by a fellow student. Jackson studied in Paris, and, while there, wrote an important study of the cholera epidemic. He returned home to America, where, unfortunately, his brilliant career was cut short when he died of tuberculosis. His father, the author of this memoir, taught at Harvard Medical School, where his son had graduated from.
