1837 $1,000 Mississippi & Alabama Railroad, Brandon MS Obsolete - Very Rare! VF

Description: 1837 $1,000 Mississippi & Alabama Railroad, Brandon Mississippi Obsolete Banknote - Very Fine! Very Rare, 10-20 Known, Only 4 Notes Graded at PMG and highest is a VF25. Quite a few micro pinholes. Note faces up nicely. This denomination is considerably scarcer than the $500, with this being a very nice example. Very Fine, a lovely note which certainly represented a huge amount of purchasing power when issued in 1837. This bank operated from 1836 until the 1840's and had a branch in Paulding. This is the largest denomination issued by the railroad and, not surprisingly, has rarely been offered. Kraus suggests a known surviving population of perhaps 11-25 examples. This Note exhibits just honest wear. The plates were engraved by Draper, Toppan, Longacre & Co., as for many banks from this period of Mississippi banking.
