Description: This is a one-of -a-kind example of this book and should be of interest to some different types of collectors. The book itself has considerable wear. Outer spine is gone but the inner spine is strong and pages intact and firmly rooted. The cover also has a lot of edge wear, scuffs and stains. Corners are deeply pushed and the pages have tanning & foxing. 1845 1st edition By Nathaniel S. Prime, Robert Carter Publ. Fold out map is intact opposite the title page. Put aside the condition issues and let me explain the important historical significance of the Huntington signature and the Revolutionary War Era Historical links to Frank Earl Hayward. The book itself is of less importance than the Hayward & Huntington details. Elijah Baldwin Huntington (1816-1877) was a teacher, a school owner, a school president & Principal at different levels of schols from grade schools to Colleges. He opened a private school for boys and was a noteworthty historian and author of many books, mainly about Connecticut genealogy and history . Ordained in 1848 he ended up becoming the acting pastor of the Congregational Church of South Coventry, Connecticut. Quite a figure in history and quite a rare and desirable signature. Frank Earle Hayward, the man behind the rare and historically important Bookplate, is another man who had a lot of titles. He had considerable connections to the Revolutionary War Era. He was a member of the Society of Sons of the American Revolution. He was also in the Order Of Washington, the Deputy- Vice- Commander General for the State of New York. Also a member of the Bibliophile Society Of Boston. Quite a good pair of gentleman to have associated with a book, great provenance. Another example of the same book plate can be seen in the collection of William Augustus Brewer at the University Of Delaware. I am not a professional book seller or grader so please look at the pictures and read full description and all provided information.
