Description: Rambles in The Romantic Regions of the Hartz (Harz) Mountains, by H. C. Anderson, 1848Rambles in The Romantic Regions of the Hartz Mountains, Saxon Switzerland &c. Anderson, H. C. London: Richard Bentley, 1848. Translated form the original Danish by Charles Beckwith. First edition in English. The Hartz (now spelled Harz) are a rugged, mountainous region in northern Germany; the Brocken is the highest summit. The author recounts walks and trips through various parts of the area -- not mountaineering, just general travel int eh area and walking "rambles." No illustrations. Bound in half green leather and marbled boards, matching endpapers. Leather well worn especially edges and edges of spine, but book is firmly bound. Interesting provenance. The book once belonged to Eric Bjornstad (1934-2014), mountaineer, longtime resident of Moab, climbing partner of Fred Beckey, Yvon Chouinard, Galen Rowell and others, and writer of climbing guides. Notably, in his youth he partied with Jack Kerouac and his friends. According to his obituary in Outside magazine, he lived quite a life. Bjornstad's name is written on the top of the blank endpaper.
