BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Bazar building was erected on the east side of Odeonsplatz from 1824 to 1826 according to plans by the architect Leo von Klenze. It replaced the old riding school at the Hofgarten. The building was financed by the banker Simon Freiherr von Eichthal. Between 1854 and 1856 the two corner pavilions were raised by one floor under the supervision of Eduard Riedel. After severe destruction from the air raids in World War II, the building was rebuilt in 1956. A film and casino complex has been in the building since 1951.
