Front & rear free endpapers missing, prelim between the table of contents and title page is roughly torn out. Fair condition. Largely a history of the continent of Australia from early discovery in the 1500's. There are chapters about each subsequent governor and their achievements or crimes. From Bligh to Caroline Chisholm and religion, education...and gold. There is some discussion on the treatment of the gold diggers (miners) that would culminate in the Eureka Stockade rebellion at the end of that year.
