There are a total of 145 hand-coloured tissue-guarded plates across the two volumes with accompanying descriptive text. It is a third edition published in 1856 by John Van Voorst, London. The binding is stunning! Half dark green morocco on red and orange marbled hardboards. 5 raised bands, lovely gilt motifs and lettering to the spines. Gilt border between leather and marbled paper. Date '1856' gilt stamped at bottom of spines. Spine leather has faded to brown. Marbled endpapers. Two bookplates (John William Pease and Thomas Westwood) to each volume. Foxing to prelims, index and flyleaf in both. Otherwise pages generally clean and tightly bound. Gilt top edge. Condition: very good.
