ARTIST/CARTOGRAPHER/ENGRAVER: Engraved by Alexander Francis Lydon, drawn by Benjamin Fawcett. PROVENANCE: Published in 'A History of British Birds', by Francis Orpen Morris. Rev. Francis Orpen Morris lived in England from 1810-1893 and was the elder brother of another famous artist-naturalist, Beverley R. Morris. He produced a number of works during his life, but is best known for "A History of British Birds," a popular account of British birds. Published during the years 1851-57, and re-issued several times during the remainder of the 19th Century. This work originally included 358 woodblock engravings in six volumes and was produced and published in monthly parts by Groombridge and Sons in London. Illustrated by Alexander Francis Lydon. First published between 1850 and 1857 and republished several times through 1903 (Anker, 1938, pg. 166) TYPE: Antique engraving printed on paper with original colour.
