These are J.M.W Turner's landscape paintings of French river scenery.Turner was part of the Romantic Movement and is renowned for his expressive and turbulent landscapes and was championed by the art critic John Ruskin.Watts describes Turner as "the greatest landscape painter the world has ever seen" in his biographical sketch of the artist. Sixty-one line engraving plate illustrations. Collated, complete. CONDITION In full blue and gold cloth binding. Externally, well presented. There is some rubbing to the joints, extremities and the spine is faded and slightly bumped. The front hinge is starting and there is previous owner ink to the front pastedown. There is a stamp to the title page. Internally, firmly bound. With bright and clean pages with the odd scattered spot throughout.
