Description: Original circa 1860's-1880's tintype photo showing a bold & appealing image of a large commercial building & approximately thirteen people. The original penciled identification on the back reads: "A. W. S. Almquist's old building at Cokato, Wright Co., Minn." We did some research on the Almquist family in Minnesota & found that there has been an Almquist family in Hastings, Minn. for five generations which owns a wedding venue business. Hastings, Minn. is located 79.4 miles from the location of Cokato, Wright County, Minn. which is mentioned on the back of our photo. So, we do not know if there was any connection of this branch of the Almquist family to the Almquist building mentioned on the back of our photo. The original paper matt measures 6 13/16 inches by 4 5/16 inches. The matt has slight trim at top & bottom edges which was performed in period to expedite album insertion. This large tintype photo measures approximately 5 3/4 inches by 4 1/8 inches. This tintype is in exceptionally superb condition which is rarely found with tintypes. The surface is entirely smooth. There are absolutely no dents, no bends, & there is no wear, & no rust. This interesting photo came from an old Pennsylvania collection of tintypes which was formed over several decades.
