Description: This is an original Civil War Period Document likely extracted from a ledger. Each side has a record of a clothing account for a soldier. Side one is entitled, "The United States in Account with James McGuigan of H Company Penna. Zouaves Regiment of Infantry P.V. [Pennsylvania Volunteers] on account of Clothing during his enlistment; the money value of each issue being hereby acknowledged. James got a long list of things from a jacket to shirts and socks, a great coat and a blanket and some shoes and a cap. He signed (with an x) each time he added to the list so he signed the paper 13 times. Each time someone had to witness and witnesses included:Geo. M. ShearerGeo. R. Helmick William R. SmithF.W. FranklinJohn B.W. Aydelott Capt. F.W. Franklin, commander of the company also signed the document. The back side is the exact same thing for John F. McSwiggan, also of Company H.
