Description: Up for auction is a collection of orders and other correspondence to I M Singer & Co. from various customers all with dates from 1863. What makes this collection unique is that the correspondence is not addressed to Singer Manufacturing Co. but I M Singer & Co. In 1863, reorganization of the company occurred which resulted in the founder, Isaac Merritt Singer being removed as President of the Company. The company was then renamed the Singer Manufacturing Company in 1865. This is the oldest correspondence I have seen to the Company and uses the original name. There are approximately 42 letters / correspondence (some are multiple pages). The majority that I have looked at are letters that were included with payments for large orders. There are also letters ordering supplies for Singer Sewing Machines, what may be a draft to be drawn upon and some letters of complaint / request for repairs. Everything is hand-written and all pieces are legible and in very good shape for their age (with the exception of one letter which is fully legible but missing pieces). Each piece has a strip of glue paper on the back where they were likely removed from a ledger. Don't know anything about the origin of these, as I acquired them at an estate auction. Please see pictures for condition and let us know if you have any questions. No partial refund in any circumstances. Please contact us with any questions.
