Description: Here is a truly outstanding old memorial or tribute token or medal made in the form of a gem carte de visite, composed of a probably gilt brass frame enclosing an early photograph, on a stiff, decorative card, in quite splendid condition overall. This beautiful Civil War-era item, depicting our nation's martyred wartime president, measures app. 1" by 3/4", the entire card about 4" by 2 & 3/8". Although I do not believe this to be a campaign item, it may still date to the president's lifetime, as my research indicate Mr. Alden was a Troy, New York area photographer during the 1860's, and he is mentioned as having photographed both Mr. Lincoln and his wife during their lifetimes. I have not cleaned or altered the card's appearance in any manner, and four of the photos have been "enhanced" for clarity. A small spot on the front's oval border is not too disturbing, and the back of the card gives information regarding the gallery and prices, along with a blue revenue stamp of the era, showing a small tear and line-canceled with a pen. Superb. $800.
