Description: The harmony Society, at Economy, Penn’a. Founded by George Rapp, A.D. 1805. By Aaron Williams and printed in Pittsburgh by W.S> Haven. 1866, 182 pp, 7.25” x 4.75”, 8vo, hardcover full cloth. As-is, with superficial rubbing and wear to exterior, primarily along edges and corners. Some cracking to hinges at front and rear. Detached table of contents page at front, with looseness to some others nearby. Some markings and marginalia, primarily at top of title page. Includes large appendix at rear of text block. General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. A scarce piece on the Harmony Society, a Christian theosophical society that relocated to western Pennsylvania after persecution in Germany in the late 18th Century. Founded by George Rapp (1757-1847), the sect developed and grew in the Untied States, and founded model communities in modern-day Harmony, New Harmony, and Economy (now Ambridge). The communities were unique in their willingness to collectively own all possssions, and existed until the early 20th Century. A wonderful piece for restoration. COLR1866FMNB-0524-aj1687
