Description: For offer, an 1873 Victorian sterling silver christening set, consisting of an egg cup, napkin ring and spoon, complete with their original leather covered case. The egg cup and napkin ring have a vine leaf & beading decoration, with a cartouche engraved "CJ", the spoon also has a beading with floral decoration and cartouche also engraved "CJ". Gilt finish to the egg cup interior and spoon bowl. All pieces are hallmarked for the London assay office, year letter date of a lowercase Gothic "s" for 1873, and makers mark of "GA" set within conjoined circles for 'Chawner & Co' (George William Adams) of Hosier Street, London. All pieces are very good, with some 'distortion' to the rim of the egg cup as shown, the maker's mark to the egg cup and napkin ring is polish rubbed though the spoon is easily legible, all assay hallmarks are legible also as shown in the photographs above. The leather covered case shows signs of age and usage to the external surfaces, with the internal linings also worn (as show above), the release catch has its push button absent.
