The Aldine was a monthly arts magazine published in New York City from 1868 to 1879. Richard Henry Stoddard was the editor in chief from 1871 to 1875. The magazine contains high quality engravings of works by Thomas Moran and other Hudson River School painters. It also featured many reproductions of works by popular European artists such as Gustave More and William-Adolphe Bouguereau. The world "Aldine" is defined as an adjective, "designating editions of Greek and Latin classics issued at Venice by Aldus Manutius". Aldus Pius Manutius (1449-1515) was an Italian printer and humanist who founded the Aldine Press. Manutius published rare manuscripts in their original Greek and Latin forms.
