Description: A collection of literary essays and poetry by John Ashcroft Noble, who was a journalist who first published articles in the Liverpool Mercury and later became chief reviewer for the Liverpool Morning Albion. In 1878, he became a regular writer for the Spectator. Pelican Papers was his first book. Fairly scarce. Good. Ex-library (USC) with call numbers on spine, bookplates inside front cover, barcode inside rear cover. Pebbled cloth cover and gilt decoration/lettering still bright. Rubbing and wear at extremities. Small tears along top and bottom of front outer hinge. Interior front hinge cracked, rear maybe just starting, but all still well attached. Pencil writing on dedication page, but otherwise interior looks to be clean and in good condition. See photos.
