Description: This is an original, first edition thus copy from 1875. It is quite scarce as only digital reprints seem to be available. This copy is in poor but complete condition. It is very well used and shows age and wear. The text block is separated from the binding and the pages are mostly loose. The cloth covered boards are soiled and ragged with the cloth no longer attached to the cardboard. The book is fragile yet the pages are clean and mostly bright with little age toning. There are some instances of small stains, but surprisingly few. I did not find any markings in the text but there is an owner name written on the free end paper and an early blank page. 338 pages. 5 x 7 1/2 inches. Recipes are presented with imprecise measurements and directions as was typical at that time. There are no oven temperatures given as cooking stoves did not yet provide that ability to regulate. There are many unusual recipes included that are no longer part of modern cooking. Over 1000 recipes are given as well as menus and household hints. Ships with USPS media mail, signature required.
