Description: This is an awesome frameable double-page centerfold from the April 7, 1877 issue of Harper's Weekly titled Scenes Along the Route of the Panama Railroad, 22 x 15 1/2 inches in size, with 14 views and a detailed map of the region. Scenes include Bronze Statue of Christopher Columbus with an Indian Woman at his Side, Protestant Church in Colon, Panama Station Pacific Terminus [Panama], San Pablo -Iron Bridge Across the River Chagres, Village of Buena Vista, Obisbo, Paraiso, Emperador [Empire], Gatun Village, Tanks at Frijoles, Bohio and Colon -Atlantic Terminus, plus the map. Hand colored with colors that are still bright and rich. On the back, the text includes an article on the Panama Railroad (shown). Despite age, paper is holding up well, though you need to take care handling. Two stains - one at center bottom and one at the left edge (a much smaller and lighter one on right edge) and three small edge tears at left, which do not detract from the item. Spectacular! Mailed only folded vertically in the center, unfolded otherwise with stiffener (not mailed intl as mail is roughly handled). High bidder pays $5 shipping within the US.
