ITEM DETAILS Title: John Smith, Democrat: His Two Days’ Canvass (Sunday Included) for the Office of Mayor of the City of BunkumvilleAuthor: Alexander Pitts BettersworthBinding: Fine Cloth BindingPublisher: H. W. Rokker, Springfield, IllinoisPublication Date: 1877Edition: 1st EditionCondition: Good ITEM DESCRIPTION Today we are pleased to offer this well preserved antique volume by Alexander Pitts Bettersworth! A great find from a local Massachusetts estate! This antique volume is over 145 years old! In great condition overall! Of interesting note, Alexander Pitts Bettersworth is the author of “The Strange M.S.” (1883) which is the first "world catastrophe" novel written by an American. This is Bettersworth’s first novel. Publisher decorative cloth binding is in nice shape overall, showing some soiling and rubbing to the boards and spine, some general wear and fraying to the cloth around the extremities, light bumping to the corners and a bit of soiling and damp staining to the page edges. Gilt title lettering to the spine still reads nicely from the shelf despite some wear, and the gilt title lettering to the front board shines brightly off the shelf. Nicely preserved overall! Internally this volume is in good shape as well. Both boards and all page groupings are firmly attached to the binding. Sturdy and square! A rather large inscription in pencil is visible on the front pastedown endpaper, and there are some bookseller notes written in pencil to the free endpaper. Otherwise clean with no bookplates or other markings to note. The text block itself is in VERY GOOD throughout. Pages show light toning from age, and there are a few spots of light soiling and foxing scattered throughout, but overall are very clean and free from rips, tears, writing and markings. Perfectly readable throughout! A very well preserved text block! Includes two illustrations as pictured above. Please see our photos above for more details. A perfect addition to any fine collection or a wonderful gift for someone special! Price includes FAST, FREE shipping! Buy with confidence! 249 pages.
