Description: Extremely hard to find February 1882 number of Blackwood's Edinburgh Magazine is in very good condition, neatly rescued in this case by me from an old board-damaged bound volume of the magazine. 131 pages. Highlights I find include: Part V (of VI) of Anthony Trollope's serialized, dystopian science fiction novel The Fixed Period, here first printed (anonymously) in the monthly. Chapter 10. William Hamley's new essay "Ireland's Fate--Britain's Warning." 15 pages. Journalist Alexander Innes Shand's survey essay (24 pages) "Romance in Business." English actress Helena Faucit Martin's notable opening the issue essay "On Some of Shakespeare's Female Characters: Juliet (Installment #5, Part II)." 28 pages. She serialized her descriptions of Shakespeare's female characters in 9 installments of the magazine during the years 1881-1891, the only appearances of work by Lady Martin in the monthly. W. Lucas Collins contributes a review of ""Bishop Thirwall's Letters." Part I ( of 2 parts) of Marian Bradley's new story, "Pentock." 16 pages. J.H.A. Macdonald's "Electric Progress." 10 pages. Some author identifications above are drawn from the Wellesley Index, I, 157.
