With one hundred and sixty four plates, one hundred and five of which are hand coloured and the rest colour printed. Collated complete. Two plates are detached but present. Written by William Buckler, an English painter and entomologist, who specialised in butterflies and moths. The Larvae of the British Butterflies and Moths was his Magnum Opus, with the illustrations taking thirty years to complete. The work was published posthumously, but many of the descriptions had previously appeared in entomological journals. A complete set of this monumental work of artistry and scientific research. CONDITION In publisher's original cloth. Externally generally smart with fading to the occasional volume. The odd mark to the boards. Occasional bumping to the extremities. Internally generally firmly bound, although strained in places. Two plates detached but present. Pages generally bright and clean. Scattered spotting.
