Chivers is credited with inventing the hugely significant and innovative vellucent binding, and with raising the standard of library bindings. Additionally, he is credited with introducing the index card system to public libraries.Ruskin's critique of economics initially appeared in 1860 in the Cornhill Magazine, and despite widespread complaint at its contents, was praised by the like of Thomas Carlyle.The work had a significant influence on Gandhi's philosophy, resulting in him translating it into Gujarati in 1908. CONDITION In a signed half calf binding by Cedric Chivers, with cloth covered boards. A touch of rubbing to back strip tail, with cloth of boards lightly age toned, with light spotting. Internally, firmly bound. Pages exceptionally clean and bright.
