Description: circa 1890s - 1906WINSTON, NC CASPER VERY OLD CORN WHISKEYFROSTED BACK BAR BOTTLE ONE OF THOUSANDS OF ITEMS AVAILABLE IN OUR EBAY STORE!AGE: circa 1890s - 1906PRODUCT: WHISKEYCOMPANY: CASPER. According to historian Cecil Munsey, the Casper company was founded in 1861. After 1865, the founder's son, John C. Casper, a Confederate soldier, managed the distillery. Years later, came John C. Casper's son, John L. Casper. A marketing genius, John L. Casper utilized beautiful bottles and colorful packaging to promote his mail order whiskey business. As North Carolina became a dry state between 1901 and 1906, Casper moved its operations to a 14-acre facility in Roanoke, Virginia. The Prohibition movement resulted in the closure of all Casper operations by around 1913. LOCATION: WINSTON, NORTH CAROLINA. Became part of Winston-Salem in 1913.ITEM: BACK BAR BOTTLEDESCRIPTION: We offer at auction this EXTREMELY RARE faceted glass whiskey bottle from what is now Winston-Salem, North Carolina! Clear, faceted glass. Acid etched label. Measures 7.5" high to lip. Measure 6" wide at widest, and measures 3" across. Stopper may not be original to the bottle, but appears to be an identical match to two other Casper bottle stoppers we discovered after reviewing twenty years of auction sales records. This bottle was likely a premium for a saloonkeeper or barkeeper who made a large purchase from Casper. We discovered this bottle in Edinburg, Virginia among the contents of an estate in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. A great addition to your pre Prohibition North Carolina whiskey bottle collection! CONDITION DETAILS: GOOD. As with all of the handful of remaining examples of this bottle, there is an internal stress crack in the side of the neck in the area where the handle attaches [structural design weakness in the bottle]. Otherwise, minimal wear. We are not certain if the cut-glass stopper is original to the bottle, but it resembles the stopper included with two other examples sold over the past twenty years. No other scratches, chips, cracks, fisheyes, pressure lines, stains or other damage.SHIPPING: UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE. Includes Delivery Confirmation. Thanks for looking, and have a blessed day.
