You are Buying a 1892 Barber Half Dollar graded PR66 Cameo by PCGS. The 1892 is perhaps the most popular Barber Half Dollar among proof type collectors. The obverse of this Premium Gem Cameo showcases bold, frosty design elements set against fully mirrored fields with a warm golden halo around the periphery. The reverse is draped in rich violet and blue-green shades. Only about one-fourth of surviving proof 1892 half dollars exhibit cameo contrast, and those pieces in Gem or finer grades are scarce. This is truly an unique coin and is an excellent coin to add to your collection.Coin Features:PCGS graded MS66 CAMProof with Mintage of only 1,245First Year of IssueKnown as a Barber Half DollarObverse: Liberty Facing Right with Liberty Cap and Laureate CrownReverse: Heraldic Eagle holding an olive branch and Arrows. Barber became Chief Engraver at the Mint in 1879 and maintained the position until his death in 1917. During his tenure he redesigned all the silver denominations and the five cent nickel coins. His work was utilitarian and while often criticized for their lack of panache, they were the most functional designs the Mint utilized up to that point. The Barber silver coinage was produced in large quantities and without change from 1892 until 1916 when it gave way to the newer art deco renditions of the so called renaissance era. The Barber half series is widely collected in all grades and with no true “stoppers” the date set can be easily completed with some diligence. Most dates are available in grades up to choice or gem with superb gem and better examples representing excellent values when price to population data is examined.
