Description: Outstanding 19th century schoolgirls sampler. Signed. From an estate. I did find St. Edwards' School for Roman Catholic girls on the internet. It was established in 1887 in Totteridge Hertfordshire. Sampler is dated 1892 just under the girls' name. Her work is quite wonderful with fine cross-stitch. Beautiful embroidery work with stags, scrolling arches, swans in fountains and a crown. There are many examples of the alphabet in a variety of designs. I do not see any stains. There are no tears. This was very well cared for. The only thing I notice is some expected fading due to age. The piece was reframed. The framer is a name I recognize as having been in our town in the 1950's but is no longer open. Sampler is very large at 19 3/4" x 11 3/4" wide. Thank you.
