Of which this is copy no. 4. Finely bound by Zaehnsdorf with binders signature "Bound by Zaehnsdorf for C. Scribner's Sons. New York." Tall octavos, xvi, 321, v, 321 pages, both volumes beautifully bound in full leather. The leather is blind stamped and decorated with gilt on all four boards. Spines with raised bands and gilt decoration. Inside gilt dentelles and marbled endpapers. Top edges gilt. Illustrated in black and white. Top board and the first few pages on volume one are detached, the other hinges are cracked with some boards holding on by a thread. Backstrip of volume one detached at the front hinge. Backstrip of volume two detached at the rear hinge. Loss to the top and bottom of the spine of volume two. Lacks spine labels, previous owner's inscripition, some minimal discoloration, rubbing and wear, else in good + condition.
