The text looks at the history of the coachways, and their conditions from as early as the 1600s. William Outram Tristram (1859-1915) was born in Bombay, India. He attended Winchester and Merton college at Oxford, however did not obtain a degree. He produced several fictional novels such as Julian Trevor as well as plays and his non fiction works.
